ASTM D 1708-13包括以微小拉伸形式测定塑料的拉伸强度和伸长率。这种方法可用于厚度达3.2毫米的试样，包括薄膜。采用这种试验方法是为了与ASTM D638的数据进行比较，但无法测定弹性模量。
此次试验中，我们使用了配有225磅载荷传感器的3345型电子万能试验系统。我们发现，225磅手动楔形夹具非常适合较硬的塑料试样。但是，对于更薄、更柔韧的微拉伸试样，我们发现气动平推夹具更适合。此外，我们还用视频引伸计追踪试样的断裂情况。视频引伸计摄制的图像将保存至英斯特朗的bluehill® 3软件。这样用户可以通过现场试验的视频查看试验数据。
